Very rare, Q Code, 351C Cleveland with factory Ram Air, CJ 4 speed, hurst transmission with factory high performance suspension.
Prior owner worked with Carroll Shelby and had him sign the glovebox. Very original clean, dry, rust free, western car with dual points distributor and motorcraft carburetor.
This is not a concourse car, but rather a nicely restored original matching numbers car which has done very well in local 2007 shows with 3 best in class awards, 2 seconds and 1 third.
Many hours and dollars invested in the restoration. This car is not a #1 car, but much better than a #3 driver.
Car has been driven less that 6000 miles since 1992. I am not sure if the odometer reading is correct at 26,000 miles but it is stated as original on the title.
Every effort will be made to disclose everything about the car, but this car will be sold without warranty and as is. Marti report is attached for your viewing.
Pewter and Vermillion color combination is most desireable. As you can see from the engine compartment photos, much attention to detail has been put forth to match the original aspects of this car. The original ram air bowl was missing when I got the car. Aftermarket bowls are now available.
I am writing this description as though I were considering buying this car myself. Here are a few comments and observations.
The car spent it's entire life in Wyoming, Nevada and Utah before coming to a heated garage in Massachusetts. It has never been driven in the rain by this owner. The undereside is unbelievable! See photos of original undercoating. No rust can be found.
The car drives tight and is incredibly fast. I spoke to a prior owner who lived in Nevada and was very excited to tell me he went over 100 mph every time he drove the car and actually outraced Nevada's finest during a high speed chase. (This is not my style, but it is fast and tight!)
It is a "two footer". The paint is new, but not perfect. One needs to look closely for defects, but they are there. I would call is 8/10.
New Michelin radials on 15 inch Magnum 500 wheels. The wheels received an amateur restoration and are not perfect. Once again the wheels are "three footers", but an easy and inexpensive fix.
Brand new high performance clutch. Many NOS parts throughout. New exhaust system with excellent sound and performance.
Original dual point distributor was taken out of the car this week for a restoration. I took photos of this as well. It will be included with the car of course. I have a spare distributor in the car at this time. Original Motorcraft carburetor.
High performance original suspension with cross over shocks and front and rear sway bars. The rear sway bar is off the car but will be included. The trunk compartment is restored to OEM standards.
The interior seats were restored and redyed to Vermillion original color. They look great for local shows, but are not concourse. The headliner is believed to be the original and has two small holes which were repaired.
The glass is fair to good with evidence of desert sand scratches. The car passed inspection with flying colors. All brakes are new as are the brake lines. Original drum brakes work perfectly. The original AM radio worked, but has a loose wire. The center console and gauges are clear and excellent and work perfectly. The dash pad is an original OEM dash and is excellent!
Another prior owner was a partner with Carroll Shelby and worked with him on a prototype suspension system. He had Carroll Shelby sign the glovebox. I know there are other ways to get a real signature, but this is a true and a really cool aspect of this car.
The 351C CJ engine is tight with excellent compression. No problems here at all. If I keep the car, I will have the carburetor rebuilt this winter just because. The clutch is brand new and top of the line.
This car sat in the desert for a long time. The story is that a kid bought it from the original owner to turn it into a drag car. Never had the money, so it just sat. The trunk got wet and therefore the trunk floor and lower rear quarters were replaced. The lower rear quarters are flared out about one inch and if I keep the car, I am going to pull them in to original specs. You can see this in the photos. I'd be happy to send more pictures if you need them. A railroad engineer from out west bought the car and sold it to another engineer who sold it to a doctor who sold it to me through a dealer.
I am a 57 year old "detail freak" engineer who loves this car. The NADA #1 value of this rare car is now sky rocketing at $54,000 and growing. This is not a #1, but much better than a #3 at $24,000. I have a fair reserve on this car.
Every nut, bolt and screw I touched was either restored to original condition or replaced with NOS or correct parts. Note the radiator overflow kit is a very rare 1972 NOS Ford option. It has the Ford logo on it and is shown is accessory catelogs. It came with the NOS radiator cap and fasteners.
Have fun checking out this rare, original and most desirable beast.
If you buy it, you can win trophies next weekend. If you want to create a tremendous investment, you can choose to do a concourse restoration. Any money you put into this car will be a good investment! They are only original matching numbers cars once!
