Car History from the Owner:
Under the Ram Air hood is a 351
Cleveland with factory four barrel (M-Code). The engine is
stock except for a Petronix solid-state ignition with
FlameThrower coil and Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
and an Edelbrock 650 carburetor. My 14-year old son (Trey)
and I added the front and rear spoilers. The 15x8
Magnum 500s were an immediate purchase along with Dunlop G/T
Qualifiers, 275x60 rear, 255x60 front. The guy who owned the
car before me rebuilt the front end and I'm keeping the
suspension stock.
I wanted a 4-speed and this car has
the factory Hurst 4-speed. This car is one of only 176
Mustang convertibles built in 1971 with the 351-4V engine
and 4-speed transmission. It also has a Traction-Lok
rear end, factory disk brakes, a rare factory gauge package
and even rarer electric windows. I didn't like the
stock dual exhaust because you couldn't SEE it. So Trey and
I took off the convertible rear valance and replaced it with
the factory Mach 1 valance that has the half-moon cut-outs
for tail pipes. This allowed us to put on the huge Mach 1
exhaust tips. Now we're rockin' with the massive, stainless
units that look like cannons sticking out the rear end of
the car.
Still have a lot to do on the interior and need to bolt on
some performance stuff like a high rise intake manifold,
bigger carburetor and long-tube headers. Other than that, I
plan to keep the engine pretty stock.
